Japan's Mount Aso erupts, officials warn to stay away from volcano over possible 2nd eruption
Japan’s Mount Aso volcano erupted on Wednesday in the Kumamoto Prefecture, sending ash into the sky and raising the alert level for the mountain to a three on a scale of five.
Tomoaki Ozaki, director of the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Volcanic Observation Division, told reporters following the eruption that there had been no reports so far of damage or casualties. But he warned that there was the possibility of another eruption, warning people not to enter the area within two kilometres of the crater. He also warned of the risk of falling rocks and pyroclastic flows within a radius of about one kilometre around the mountain’s Nakadake crater.
